What people say about EBSA Horizons
School Staff Training CPD
If you were to recommend EBSA Horizons as a CPD course to another school, how would you summarise it to them?

A highly informative and well structured course that describes what EBSA is how to use the paperwork and how best to support the students.

Concise, forward thinking, full of useful resources.

In depth resources and information about emotionally based school avoidance. Well researched.

It is a very child focused approach that prioritises student voicing the concerns and how they would like to begin moving forward. It provided a variety of resources and strategies that are helpful regardless of the reason for EBSA.

A fantastic structured approach to understanding student need.

Good, in depth training program.

Brilliant , to differentiate EBSA from non-attendance.

Informative and well resourced.

It reinforces and compliments a caring and nurturing ethos / school philosophy. It is a holistic approach putting the child at the centre. It can also provide hard evidence of the strategies school use to promote and develop attendance. Over time, it can show an improvement of individual attendance. It sits nicely amongst the child centred approach. It makes everyone at all levels involved with a child (Including the child) accountable for a child's attendance, future welfare and success. It also addresses emotions and feelings and gives strategies to manage these strong emotions which would benefit not only an improved school attendance. Meetings are structured to be pro-active in finding solutions and appreciating everyone's views, wishes and feelings.
What has been the greatest benefit of EBSA Horizons for supporting you in your work?

I feel it reinforces what good, nurturing staff we have. We are very lucky and instinctively appreciate, empathise with pupils and families. The strategies are great. The audit and tools will be useful too. Thankyou. Just need more staff to do the training too.

Developing a greater understanding of why CYP are refusing to attend school.

The theory and evidence based practices.

More tools and resources.

Well being cards and clarity of EBSA functions.

Having a recognised certificate that verifies my ability to support children and young people experiencing EBSA. It also verifies to those who have little understand it is a real issue.

It was a great course, lots of useful info. This course came at the right time for my year group as we have a few children who would benefit from strategies shown. Lots of things I didn't know.

Before starting, I have very little knowledge on EBSA. I have recently started a new school and role of SEMH HLTA. I am also working on improving SEN attendance so this has been really helpful.

Creating awareness of the variety of influencing factors and demonstrating how to break fears down into chunks.

Being able to use this for our students that are struggling most with coming into school.

Being more aware of the wider context in order to try to successfully breakdown the barriers presented with attending school.

Other thoughts or feedback or share...?

Just great will be purchasing the cards.

I would just like to say the course was very useful.

I thought the whole course was informative and relevant.

I am the EBSA specialist within our school and this reinforces my belief that every school needs an EBSA specialist to work with families and young people.

Thank you so much - I wish that I have come to this course far sooner as Inclusion Lead and SENCo. There are children who I could have supported far more quickly post-Covid.

Lots of very useful information and strategies that I think can be used very well, will hopefully be ordering the cards and other products to use within school. Thank you very much.

A loved the course. The strategies really help. I have a few children at mind and will start to use this as soon as possible. I will be sharing what I have learned with other members of staff and head teacher. Thank you.

I will be using what I have learned in this course to help have positive outcomes for our CYP. I have enjoyed it very much. Thank you!

This is an amazing course, very insightful and supportive. I have read a few different LA EBSA guidance and toolkits, and found then a bit confusing and a draining to read. This course has opened up these resources for me and how I can support the pupils in my school.
